The Carmel City Council voted on Monday Nov. 5 to approve a new map for the city council districts. I will be running in May 2019 to represent the southeast district of Carmel. The current councilor in that district, Jeff Worrell, has announced he will be running at large in 2019 since there will be a third at large position. All of the other incumbents on the council are in the own districts under the new map. There is no incumbent in the newly created western district, which includes the Village of West Clay.
I am excited for the opportunity to represent southeast Carmel. It’s a great part of town with some of the city’s best neighborhoods. If elected as city councilor, I would support efforts to fill the O’Malia’s grocery vacancy (many current councilors are working hard on this and I would help in any way I can). I would also help communicate with my constituents about ongoing road construction and I would push for construction projects to completed as quickly as possible so it has the least impact on residents and businesses. I would be a strong advocate for small business and local police/fire. I would be forward thinking and always look 10 or 20 years down the road so we can be prepared for the future. Most importantly, I would keep my constituents informed. Jeff Worrell has done as fantastic job with his newsletter, town halls and social media outlets. As a former journalist, I believe I have the skills to try to carry that on. I know I would have enormous shoes to fill, but I’m up for the challenge.
